Disruption to UK airports

Airline passengers are facing great disruption today as an ash cloud caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland passes over the UK.

All airports have been shut in Scotland, while other airports throughout England and Ireland have suspended or cancelled flights. The Met Office has warned that the ash could take several days to clear. Added to this, the volcano is still erupting.

While visibility would not be too great an issue, it is feared the tiny particles of rock, glass and sand could jam aircraft engines and cause other damage.

A BAA spokesman said: "Passengers intending to fly today are asked to contact their airline for further information and should expect disruption in the coming hours."

WEXAS Travel Management is contacting all passengers affected by flight cancellations.
